Networking for women in business has existed in some form almost from the beginning of the movements which marked the rise of women in business. Networking for women in business was one of the aims of the first business women’s organization as early as the 1920;s when the Business and Professional Women’s Club was founded. Almost immediately this club fostered networking for women in business when it traveled to Europe to form a sister club.

Women realized early that networking for women in business needed to work the way networking worked for their male counterparts. Networking for women in business is simply a way of women communicating and banding together to help each other. Today, many organizations exist to implement networking for women in business. Through disseminating information, holding conferences both locally and nationally, various women’s organizations foster networking for women in business. New organizations are regularly being formed, both nationally in the US and internationally, to foster networking for women in business. In a sense, any woman who has had is or enjoying success in the business world is a self-made business woman. In considering salaries of women in business we will discuss salaries of women employed by various businesses and institutions, rather than income of women owning their own businesses. The salaries of women in business have undergone major change in the last few decades, but salaries of women in business still lag behind those of men in comparable positions.

To go back a few years in considering salaries of women ;in business, one might look at an example or two. For instance, salaries of women in the advertising business might be compared to that of their male counterparts in a medium sized advertising agency. While a woman copywriter might be earning $200 per week working on a major account her male fellow worker would earn $300 to $400 for comparable work. The salaries of women in business in other areas were comparably beneath those of men. Of course the salaries of women in business as well as those of men were overall much lower a few decades ago.
